Employee Investigation and Adjudication Seminar – February 6-8, 2019

The Department of Justice’s National Indian Country Training Initiative (NICTI), together with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, is pleased to announce a training titled Employee Investigation and Adjudication Seminar. This seminar will be held February 6-8, 2019, at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Travel and lodging accommodations will be provided by the Office of Legal Education.
This is a three-day training session that focuses on investigative requirements, adjudication principals, and the employee suitability criteria outlined in Indian Country Law Enforcement (25 CFR 12) and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (Public Law 101-630) and accompanying regulations and policies. The course consists of both instructor-led lessons and practical exercises that take attendees through realistic investigative scenarios, culminating with an exercise that includes all aspects of both child care and law enforcement background investigations.
Attendees will participate in each phase of the adjudication process from initial screening, through case ranking, developing a case summary, and making a final adjudication determination. Attendees will take a final exam that emphasizes their ability to use the course-provided reference materials and adjudication tools. The training is designed for Program Administrators, Human Resource personnel, background investigators, adjudicators, and managers responsible for overseeing employee hiring and suitability programs. Registration is open to BIA/Tribal Law Enforcement and Personnel.
