Submit your Written Testimony and Recommendations Regarding the Annual Government-to-Government Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation to OVW by November 5th!

OVW extended the deadline to submit written testimony and recommendations regarding the Annual Government-to-Government Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation. The adjusted deadline is now Monday, November 5, 2018. The 2018 Office on Violence Against Women Tribal Consultation in Sioux Falls, SD marked 13 years of annual consultations between Indian tribes and federal departments to address violence against Native women. This nation-to-nation Consultation is critical for Indian tribes to address outstanding concerns with the United States regarding safety for Native women, including legal and policy barriers impacting the ability of Indian tribes to protect Native women, especially given that Native women experience some of the highest rates of violent victimization in the United States. To continue to advance systemic and policy reform, it is imperative that tribal leaders provide written comments to inform the federal departments about any outstanding needs and provide recommendations for action. To supplement written testimony or in lieu of submitting separate written testimony, Indian tribes can opt to submit a statement indicating their support for the NCAI Task Force on Violence Against Women’s Priorities Document (see attached), which have been vetted with the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, tribal advocates, and tribal leadership through participation in the Task Force
