Washington - The US Senate Committe on Indian Affairs is holding a legislative hearing on Thursday, November 10 at 2:15 pm on the three following Senate bills now pending:

• S. 1763 Stand Against Violence and Empower Native Women Act;
• S.872, Bill to amend the Omnibus Indian Advancement Act to modify the land of the Lytton Rancheria of California to be held in trust and provide for the conduct of certain activities on the land; and
• S. 1192, Alaska Safe Families and Villages Act of 2011.

If enacted, the Stand Against Violence and Empower (SAVE) Native Women Act would:

1. restore tribal criminal jurisdiction over all persons committing domestic violence and dating violence on tribal lands;

2. clarify tribal civil jurisdiction over non-Indians;

3. create new federal offenses to combat violence against women;

4. increase support for Tribal Domestic and Sexual Assault Coalitions; and

5. provide additional accountability measures to ensure federal consultation on these issues is meaningful and effective.

Several witnesses will discuss the various aspects of each pending Senate bill.

The hearing will be webcast live on Thursday afternoon.
