A Victim’s Right to Privacy: Advocating for Victim-Survivor Choice Webinar

September 10, 2020 @ 3:00 pm

A victim’s right to privacy is found in state and federal constitutions, statutes and rules. Legal advocacy for this right is more than learning the law, however. Victim-Survivor preferences regarding whether, how and when to exercise their rights to privacy must guide a victims’ rights attorney. Are you interested in learning more about the right to privacy and how to support crime victims as they navigate this right? If so, please join presenters Meg Garvin, MA, JD, Executive Director of the National Crime Victim Law Institute and Clinical Professor of Law at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon; and Desiree Staeffler, JD, Fellow at the National Crime Victim Law Institute as they discuss they how to identify select risks and benefits for crime victims in sharing of private information or records; recognize trauma-informed and “agency-forward” approaches to victims’ privacy preferences; and articulate legal tools available to support victims’ privacy preferences.
